MRC Core Competency Pilot Site
As an MRC Core Competency Pilot Site, we are looking to your MRC unit to provide leadership and feedback regarding the core competency matrix. The goal of this project is to utilize our experience implementing the Core Competency Matrix to develop a final deliverable to be presented at the
2008 MRC National Leadership Conference.

Medical Reserve Corps Strategic Plan
The goal of this regionalization/strategic planning process is for all local MRC unit members to be part of a DEMHS Regional MRC Response Team but maintain their local unit names. The Regional MRC concept in Connecticut is to provide competent and trained volunteers for use at large-scale emergencies and events, field treatment sites, and off site surge capacity for local hospitals that affect communities, DEMHS regions and/or the State. The concept of regionalization of MRCs will enhance each region's collective capacity to share resources and to respond to public health threats and emergencies.

Pandemic All-Hazards Preparedness Act of 2006
On December 19, 2006, President Bush signed S.3678, the “Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act” into law (Public Law No. 109-417). This is a significant piece of legislation because the Act authorizes appropriations to:

  • Improve bioterrorism and other public health emergency planning and preparedness activities
  • Help hospitals improve surge capacity
  • Codifies, or formally establishes under federal law, the Medical Reserve Corps

You may read the entire text of S.3678 Act which can be found at http://thomas.loc.gov.
